While parents in Uvalde, Texas, are trying to understand and cope with the mass shooting that took place at Robb Elementary School, in D.C. and across televisions around America, the story hasn’t been much about the shooter or the victims. Instead, the main focus has been the ongoing efforts to push for more gun control. Speaking on the tragedy, President Joe Biden demanded action be taken against the gun lobbyists. “As a nation, we have to ask: When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? When in God’s name will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?” Along with the President, outlets like MSNBC promoted this narrative. One of the latest headlines from MSNBC read, “Why Republicans are choosing the NRA over murdered children.”
Again, appearing not that worried about the victims or parents who are currently dealing with tragedy, funeral arrangements, and their lives shattered, CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota decided to confront James White, a Texas Republican Lawmaker, about why the GOP seems more worried about an unborn fetus than the lives of innocent children. Take a look.

Literally standing in the same town as the shooting, Camerota stated, “We know those details. What we want to know is what your solution is. And the reason I ask is because “We’ve all seen how quickly and creatively Texas—your local legislature—can act when it wants to, say, protect the unborn embryo. Why not act with that alacrity to protect living, breathing 10-year-olds in this school behind me? Use that same blueprint that you use for your abortion law – make therapy, waiting periods, make them have to come back to the scene more than once? Make them have to answer questions. Why can’t you protect living 10-year-olds?”
Not wanting to fall into a debate about gun control and assault rifles, White admitted, “Well, thank you for that question. And let me tell you why we have not taken that approach, consistent with the legislation you brought up as it relates to innocent unborn life in the womb, is because we have this thing called the Constitution. Okay. What we really need to be looking at is—whether it’s in Buffalo, whether it’s in Uvalde—is these young men, for some reason, that have some very disturbed emotional state. We need to look at our mental health system.”
Not letting White discuss the mental health issues in America, anchor Victor Blackwell chimed in, suggesting that there was no evidence that the shooter was suffering from mental illness. “They say that this was the act of a lone, deranged criminal. There was no evidence that there was mental illness.”
