I’m paraphrasing some conversations I’ve had where people asked my opinion into an easier to read format. As usual I will point out that no one is actually an expert in surviving a global famine, WW3 etc. These opinions are based on my personal life experience and you may know something I don’t to make you come to a different conclusion.
What do you think about playing airsoft as a way to train? This question popped up because the Administrative Results YouTube channel did a presentation on it. This is the video:
My opinion is that if you preparations involve belonging to a group who are going to use quasi-military fire and maneuver tactics and your budget allows I don’t see why not. If you plan on “bugging out” to the woods joining a historical trekking group could be great. If you live in a country where firearms are restricted and are relying on melee weapons for defense some of those medieval reenactment groups or fantasy LARP groups could help you learn why it’s a bad idea. There are a lot of hobbies out there where you can develop and/or perfect skills you want to work on.
But if you’re being subsidized by others, adding the expense of a new hobby to the preps other people are already basically paying for is a dick move. Get out of your parents house and get a job before taking up any expensive hobbies.
What do you think of BJJ? Training in any martial art is good. No martial art is perfect. Learning grappling and fighting BJJ style is great for one on one encounters. But criminals run in packs so…
I encourage people to be well rounded in that respect. Add some boxing, kali etc.
Why did you mock this shotgun? Here’s the shotgun in question:
I explained it in the post but a couple of people got angry about my criticism of slings that hold ammunition, especially heavy ammo like shotgun shells. Basically the sling becomes a weight that swings around under you gun as you move. Slings that carry ammo were invented for hunters who wanted a convenient place to store ammo while sitting still, and primarily what you used to see were lighter rifle rounds on slings. These slings often only had two to four on them. Then the tactical brands started doing them with more rounds and for shotguns.
For home defense or when you’re moving around it’s awkward especially with heavy rounds. The ammo on the front is just cringe.
Why can’t you be a vegan in the coming times? Veganism, the paleo diet, keto – all are diets made possible by first world free markets and large scale industrial agriculture. We’re not going to have either soon. Veganism in particular relies on corporate fertilizer intensive farming to grow veggies year round, and global transportation systems. There is a fertilizer shortage, diesel is now too expensive and government interference in the system has collapsed the small family farms to a level where local agriculture simply can’t produce enough calories for the areas they serve.
Keto and paleo diets are similar – the inputs of those industries in our environment will collapse them. Until the late 20th century food was seasonal. You couldn’t get apples year round, you weren’t guaranteed access to grass fed beef or anything else. it was an amazing time to be alive but, and not to be a dick, but many of you voted your way out of it so…
By next year you’ll be happy to eat whatever you can get your hands on. Without fertilizer won’t be growing enough to support 400,000,000 Americans who are suddenly vegan and without animal agriculture we can’t replace the industrial fertilizer we’re missing.
