I found a great resource for homeschoolers and people worried about the big tech driven new dark age called MiSci. It’s a channel that has republished a lot of old educational materials from The Museum of Innovation and Science formerly Schenectady Museum.
This particular one is is a 1956 classic film called Meet Mrs. Swenson about a long suffering wife who is married to a company man who just got a new promotion but isn’t the brightest bulb. The house he buys makes his wife’s life harder to the point where she gets sick! The film is promotional material for time saving devices at the time. It’s a fun little movie that shows how important modern tech is to a happy home.
Modern tech many of us will be losing soon.
The title comes from the husband trying to hire a cleaning woman named Mrs. Swenson – a old Swedish woman who takes one look at the house and bails. Hilarity of the 1950s short educational film types ensues. Bumbling husband gets taught a lesson, and the husband gets a whole army of “Mrs. Swensons” to help the wife. There’s also a mini-lesson in the middle about the importance of proper electrical capacity.
Preppers will see the point. As modern conveniences begin to deteriorate the lives of those with homes to keep and households to run become overwhelming – something we will all be experiencing. The K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid) principle is also aptly demonstrated here as the old houses jury rigged electrical system can’t handle the loads of a modern house and the bills generated by “too much house” begin to eat away at the husband’s promotion.
For us we need to see this in reverse – the wife finally gets the upgrades she want to make life easier. We will be experiencing those upgrades, which we took for granted, slowly disappearing.
