Interview with Gareth Lewis on BBC Radio #Wales on the latest situation with #COVID19.
1️⃣ The Delta (Indian) variant is more pronounced in the North West of England and cases rising was inevitable when restrictions eased
2️⃣ Most of the rises have been among young people.
3️⃣ The most vulnerable people in Wales have had two doses of a vaccine and we are not seeing the same rises in cases among this group.
4️⃣ The talk of wave three is premature and it will not be the same as wave one or two.
5️⃣ One dose of a vaccine offers significant protection from hospitalisation.
6️⃣ We have had 64 deaths in Wales since the start of April but in January we had more than this one day.
7️⃣ As restrictions continue to ease in the future cases will go up.
8️⃣ Other parts of the world are opening up with lower vaccine rates so we are being a little too cautious
9️⃣ We are at the stage we have to live with Covid. The effectiveness of the vaccine is far greater than the flu vaccine and new Covid variants will happen all the time
1️⃣0️⃣ I think we should have eased restrictions in Wales several weeks ago and the way the data is it would be very disappointing that restrictions continue come July review time.
